RAVI KUMAR DAHIYA WON SILVER FOR INDIA

Ravi Kumar Dahiya won silver medal for the nation in 2020 Tokyo Olympics in the category of 57 kg. He is an Indian Freestyle Wrestler. Dahiya also won a bronze medal in 2019 World Wrestling Championships and two time Asian Champion. Ravi Kumar is the fifth athlete after KD Jadhav, Sushil Kumar, Yogeshwar Dutt and Shakshi Malik to finish on the Olympic Podium. He banged his silver medal after losing fight with Zavur Uguev. This is fifth medal for India at Tokyo Olympics and second silver medal for India.

In the final fight they both played well, but when the fight started Uguev got 2 points making a score of 2-0. Ravi made a good comeback by picking up 2 points but Uguev took advantage immediately and the score was 4-2. Ravi really tried to comeback but the score remained same in first period.

In the start of second period Uguev pushed out Ravi and score was 5-2. Ravi tried to make a move but Zavur deafened really well and score rose up to 7-2. Finally Ravi was able to make the score 4-7. Hence Ravi got silver medal.

TOKYO OLYMPICS

Ravi was born in 1997 in a Hindu Jat Family and is from village Nahri in Sonipat district, Haryana. From the age of 10 he started his training under Satpal Singh at the Chhatrasal Stadium in North Delhi. His father supported him very much. He used travel 39km a daily to deliver fresh milk and fruits which was his part of diet, for than a decade. He loves to pray Lord Shiv.

Ravi Kumar qualified into Tokyo Olympics and a part of the Target Olympics Podium (TOPS) since 2019, but was not satisfied by silver. Hoping that this medal will bring positive change in his village, he reveals that his next target is to win gold medal in next Olympics held to be in 2024 in Paris.

The Haryana government had announced that Dahiya will get rupee 4 crore, a government job and a plot at a concessional rate. And in the honour of his victory, an indoor stadium will be built in Nahari. Dahiya adds, “It’s great news! Nahari had sent athlete to the Olympics in the past as well, and my village needs many facilities. I am glad that all the people, especially youngster there will get more opportunities to train.
