INDIAN HOCKEY TEAM BREAK 40 YEARS JINX

Indian Hockey Team break 40 years jinx and won medal in Tokyo Olympics. Hockey has been India’s national sports. Hockey has been Indian’s traditional sport for winning medals in Olympics from 1928 to 1980 and in this time period they have won 11 medals for the nation. These 11 medals include 8 gold medals, 1 silver medal and 2 bronzes medals. Though it’s been a long time since India won a medal in Olympics since 1980. The last time India won a medal was in 1980 at Moscow Games was the Gold medal.

The India Men’s National Field Hockey Team represents India in National and International Field Hockey competition, and is governed by HOCKEY INDIA. Earlier the team was in the charge of Indian Hockey Federation.

TOKYO OLYMPICS

India was the first NON-EUROPEAN NATION to be a part of International Hockey Federation. The team won their first OLYMPIC Gold Medal in 1928 and they were unbeatable until 1960, winning six gold medals in a row. They also won the WORLD CUP in 1975. In Olympics they had a winning streak of 30-0 from first game till losing their last game until 1980 final. Indian Team has been most successful team in the Olympics.  

India has best overall performance in the history of Olympics with 83 victories out of the 134 played matches. They have also scored most goals than any other team. They are also the only team to ever win the Olympics without conceding a single goal in 1928 and 1956.

The men in blue are one of the most successful team in ASIA. They have won ASIAN GAMES three times in a row in the year 1966, 1998 and 2014. India came out on the top in the Asia Cup in 2003, 2007 and in 2017. India has won 43 out 56 matches, the most in any team of ASIA CUP. They are the most successful team in the ASIAN CHAMPIONSHIPS TROPHY. By winning the competition three times in the years 2011, 2016 and in 2018. In total Indian team has 27 official international titles.

In the Tokyo Olympics India was headed by coach DILPREET SINGH and analytical coach GREGG CLARK and assistant coach SHIVENDRA SINGH.
